Indie games often take inspiration from titles that helped set the standard in gaming. Sometimes they like to fuse elements together to have even more fun. For example, what happens when you take a team of ex-Ubisoft employees, ones who worked on Rayman, and put their platforming knowledge together and add some shooting elements? You get Splasher, a game that has just released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. And it’s a game that is not to be judged on its first look, for it’s far more than meets the eye.
Splasher is an arcade-style platformer and shooter game. You play a kid who is trying to free his co-workers from the evil claws of El Docteur. But to do so, he’ll have to traverse the dangers of the paint factory they all work in, and he’ll need some special gear to get around. Mainly, his trust paint gun and pack.
Now, if this sounds a bit like the Nintendo game Splatoon, you’re not wrong to draw comparisons, however, Splasher is its own beast. Mainly because the color of the inks you use bestow upon you different powers. And you’ll need to use these various powers to defeat enemies and get around the factory.
Once you’re done with the main game (which is 22 levels long by the way, so you’ll be playing for a while!), there’s still plenty more to do. There are challenge maps which will put your skills to the test, there are all Time Attack levels, there’s Speed Runs you can do, and there are many other secrets lying in wait for you to find.
So, if you’re in the mood for a fun and fast platformer, or you’re looking for an off the walls (literally) shooter, or something different and unique, then you’ll definitely want to check out Splasher.
