The competitive first-person shooter Paladins, which was released this past September, is already at 5 million players in Beta. The game is developed and published by Hi-Rez Studios.
5 Million Paladins
Todd Harris, Chief Operating Officer of Hi-Rez Studios, attributes the early success of the game to the passionate community that supported the game in Closed Beta. He also notes that the game’s developers plan to continue to release major updates every two weeks.
The early enthusiasm for Paladins has created a bustling competitive scene. Since the release of the Open Beta on Steam, it has consistently been one of the venue’s more popular titles. Players can download the game and play it for free. Players interested in playing on consoles can sign up now for closed betas on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
January will see the first Paladins competitive tournament, taking place in Atlanta, Georgia. The Paladins Invitational Tournament will start January 5th at the Hi-Rez Expo. Eight teams from around the world will compete for a prize pool totaling $150,000. The full details on the professional tournament are available here. The games will stream live via twitch here. The Evie’s Winter Community tournament is also under way now until December 18th.
Paladins is a fantasy first-person shooter designed to encourage competitive and tournament play. Players are able to customize their characters through use of the game’s card system. The developers are committed to keeping the game free to play. No stranger to esports, one of Hi-Rez’s other major titles is SMITE. They are also working on a strategy counterpart called SMITE Tactics.
