In MMORPGs, there’s always a desire to tell more stories, but usually in the context of having the player live out a story through a quest, mission, or boss fight. Sometimes, the best stories are the ones you read and see the world of that game unfold through it. Adventure Quest 3D has done that with the tale of Althesus.
The story is told from the perspective of Kord, a Dragonslayer Commander, and the officer who had Althesus in his garrison. He writes to the family of Althesus for he has gone missing and is presumed dead.
Kord notes that he [Althesus] was a good Dragonslayer, with the potential of being a great one given time and experience. He earned the respect and praise of all he served with, and in battle, he was fearless and determined. When in camp in the company of members of his unit, he was joyful and pleasant to be around, making him a truly special member of the Dragonslayers.
Althesus spoke often of his family and even hoped that his brother Talmier would one day join the order as well so that they could fight together like they always dreamed about when they were but children.
His biggest accomplishment was the battle against the dragon Estreth. The dragon had been terrorizing the homeland of Althesus and through his knowledge of the area and quick thinking, the beast was slain. For that feat he was granted the honor of joining the Dragonslayers.
As for how he disappeared, there were disturbance reports that needed to be investigated and Althesus volunteered. When he failed to respond, the order knew that something had happened to him, as he was too dedicated to his job not to report in.
And so ends the tale of Althesus in Adventure Quest 3D. Or is it? As they say, “no body, no crime…”
