We often talk about Kickstarters that could be funded, might be funded, are looking to get funded, and everything in between. But today, we’re going to talk about one that just got funded. It’s called Pawarumi, and it reached its funding goal and will now be made. But what is Pawarumi? Well, it’s an interesting take on old-school arcade shooters, while delivering a unique setting and, of course, modern graphics and effects.
You see, in this title, you’re placed in a “retro-futuristic sci-fi pre-Colombian universe,” where you must pilot a ship called the Chukaru and use its weaponry to blast through enemies and obstacles that get in your way. The team behind the game are inspired by the many classic arcade shooters of console and arcade generations gone by. It’s their hope that people old and new will enjoy the game on a level that speaks to their inner arcade gamer, as well as appreciate great detail and game design.
Your ship has three different weapons it can use, and naturally, each one has different effects and firing styles. But all of them have unlimited ammo, just like any good arcade shooter, so the only strategy you’ll need to think about is which weapon to use next.
For those who like precision, the Serpent Gatling is the weapon for you. It’ll blast through enemies up close, or damage them from afar if you aim it well. Or, if you’re more akin to blowing stuff up, the Jaguar Missiles may be better. You lock on target and fire, and the missiles do the rest. But be warned, the farther the missiles go, the less likely they are to hit the desired target. Finally, there’s the Condor Laser, a truly spectacular laser beam that’ll destroy anything in its path, but you have to be precise in aiming, or else you’ll waste your shot.
Pawarumi is rich in detail and story, and though you can’t support it on Kickstarter anymore, you can still read about it, and put it on your wishlist for when it arrives. It’s been approved by Steam Greenlight, meaning it’ll come to Steam once completed.
