In video games, there’s nothing worse than releasing an unfinished or unpolished title, with the exception of services like Steam Early Access. And one of the toughest challenges for game developers is to decide when a game is done and when it needs more time to develop. For developer Ebb Software, they wanted to make their two part shooter series Scorn the best it could be, and so, they have launched it on Kickstarter.
What’s interesting about this is that Ebb Software has a pretty much finished title. They say so themselves, and also, they’ve teamed up with Humble Bundle to get this game made. But even with all of that, they weren’t satisfied with where Scorn was as a game, so they’ve come to Kickstarter to get the additional funds they need to not only truly finish their game, but make it something they can all be proud of.
As for what Scorn is itself, it’s a horror-style FPS where you are thrown into a world that feels straight out of a nightmare. The team really wanted to deliver the feeling of being “lost,” and thus, the areas you explore in this world will be nonlinear. As you explore, you’ll be able to fight enemies, find new areas, discover new items, learn new skills, and more.
The story of the world is all around you, and so you’ll need to pay attention to see what is being told. What’s more, enemies can come out of nowhere, so you’ll need to pay attention to that too. Add that to unique weapons, limited ammo, puzzles, and a darkness that lies everywhere around you, and Scorn isn’t your typical shooter.
If this sounds like a shooter you’d like to play yourself when it’s done, head to the Kickstarter page and support it.
