Fans of Overwatch are a very passionate bunch. Which is great, as that not only helps them in-game, but allows them to voice what they feel is wrong with the game without hesitation. For a while now, players have wanted an upgrade (or buff as it’s called in-game) for the character known as Bastion, and for good reason.
Players note that he’s one of the few heroes that hasn’t been touched much since launch. And the addition of new heroes only makes the sad state of Bastion more visible. Blizzard has heard their cries, stating in their own post on the Overwatch forums that Bastion is being tested. In fact, Principal Designer Geoff Goodman said:
“We’re still testing and tweaking things with Bastion but we’ll hopefully have a PTR build coming fairly soon so you guys can try it out!”
However, that wasn’t the only thing said about Bastion, he also went into details about how Bastion will be tweaked and adjusted for the game.
For example, in Recon Mode, they increased his clip size, whilst also powering the spread of his fire, from which they aim to help visibility through this. In Sentry Mode, they’re trying to make it so it operates more like a “tank-buster”, rather than what it is now. They even note that gameplay wise, it’s kind of suicide to be transformed, they’re aiming to fix that too, even allowing Bastion to take less damage while transformed.
Finally his Self-Repair function will be seeing some big changes. Mainly in that they’re testing the ability to not only use the Self-Repair while Bastion is moving, but that it won’t be stopped if he gets shots and/or takes damage. Now, they are balancing it out via a resource system. However, they note that this works in its favor. Furthermore, they call this particular upgrade a “core survivability tool.” It’s hard not to agree with that.
So there you have it, Bastion is getting his due, you may have to wait a little longer to get it in the full game, but once you do, it looks like it’ll be worth the wait.
