For months now, World of Warcraft players have wanted to know what the next expansion for the game would be. They’ve been fighting the Burning Legion for some time, and they could tell that the story was winding down, which would lead no doubt to the arrival/announcement of the next one. But, fans were also skeptical, for they weren’t sure if Blizzard could deliver an expansion that not only felt worth it, but would resound with them. It has happened before. Instead, they got the reveal of Battle For Azeroth, and everything seemed right in the world.
But why? Why did so many people think that this was an amazing expansion idea? Was it simply that it wasn’t “us versus another bad guy” scenario? Or, was it simply better than we could of hoped for? Or maybe, just maybe, was it something more than that? i certainly think it is.
For what Battle For Azeroth truly is, is something pure. this is something that harkens back to the true birth of World of Warcraft, for this is The Alliance vs. The Horde! These are the two groups that practically kicked off the whole phenomenon. In the beginning, this was one of the biggest decisions you made, “Alliance or Horde?” It was part of their promotion at times as well, and it was great.
But more than that, despite all the expansions and updates, players have been loyal to these two groups, and now they’re getting to focus on them once again. Storywise, it’s fun to see how far these two have come. Both sides have gone through leader changes, and now these two sides have to rally under their new leaders in order to claim victory.
So, why does Battle For Azeroth work? Well, simply because it does what few other expansion have done, gotten pretty much all of the fanbase excited.
