There’s a new game studio out of Austin, Texas that’s getting ready to release their first title, Battle Chasers: Nightwar.
Classic RPG on PS4
The co-founder of the studio, Joe Madureira, is a comic book artist turned developer. No doubt some fans will remember his Battle Chasers comic book series from the turn of the millennium. Now, he’s revisiting the world he created, but as a classic, turn-based RPG.
But the game will also offer more customization than some of its ancestors. Players will be able to form their team of 3 from six different choices, craft weapons and unlock new skins. The story, inspired by the original series, will be “a Castlevania-esque fantasy-horror.” This timely genre may also help with the appeal for a contemporary audience.
Battle Chasers: Nightwar Fully-Funded
Funded on Kickstarter, the game is set for release in the summer of 2017. It hopes to be a blend of classic mechanics and fresh, contemporary content. Randomly generated dungeons and complex scaling difficulty levels should help appeal to modern gamers. Those who pine for the days when you could stop before making your next move to ponder the best approach, or the general cosmos, will feel right at home in the mechanics.
Airship Syndicate’s Startup Roots
The small, independent publisher only has about 12 employees. Their website features a photo of their studio, and they didn’t even bother to clean up their desks. Nevertheless, Madureira powers the studio with his creative prowess, and others are also veterans from Vigil Games. That studio, also out of Austin, developed Darksiders and Darksiders II, but shuttered in 2013.
Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a classic style turn-based JRPG set in a fantasy world full of technology. Developed by Airship Syndicate for PS4, it has an expected release date in Summer 2017.
