Bayonetta was a hit game on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Yet, despite selling over a million units, it wasn’t picked up for a sequel by either Microsoft or Sony. So, Nintendo decided to step in, and created the sequel exclusively for the Wii U. This shocked many, as Nintendo isn’t known for overtly supporting “M” rated games like this one. And what’s more, people feared that the game would be “toned down” because of Nintendo being the publisher. Turns out, they had nothing to fear, the game was great, and now, both the original and sequel are coming to the Nintendo Switch.
This the latest in a line of ports from the Wii U to the Nintendo Switch, which makes sense, as the Wii U didn’t have a lot of major software success during its 5-year run. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has nearly done better on Switch than it has done on Wii U, and it’s only been ten months. So, it goes to reason that Bayonetta 1 & 2 could do better on Switch, not to mention that the third title is coming sometime to Switch, so the ports will boost buzz for that as well.
Japanese released a web commercial of the ports, check it out below.
For those who don’t know, Bayonetta is the name of a character within a world where Angels and Demons fight over many things. She herself is an “Umbra Witch”, who have made connections with the demons of Inferno in order to get power. She is also part of a prophecy that was said to bring the end of the world. Thankfully, two games in, that hasn’t happened yet.
Platinum Games is the creator/developer of this soon-to-be trilogy, and they bring their trademark style and action-focused gameplay into the series in full.
Needless to say, the ports will be good, and we can’t wait for Bayonetta 3. As for the ports of the first two games, they’re arriving on February 16th.
