It would be strange if someone as powerful as the Black Panther had people protecting him, but, as a matter of fact, there are those who protect even the mighty Black Panther, and they are called the Dora Milaje, which translates to the “Adored Ones.”
Wakanda formed as a country thousands of years ago when Bashenga, an ancient leader, united all of the local tribes around a Vibranium meteor crash site. The capital city of Birnin Zana today has 18 tribes surrounding it, with the King T’Challa residing in the capital.
There is an ancient practice that maintains unity in the Wakandan tribes where each of the 18 factions has to provide a potential queen to take Black Panther’s side. But, these women that train are elites that also form Black Panther’s own Secret Service of sorts that are more commonly known as the Dora Milaje. Don’t think that they are some random bodyguards, after all, they are protecting Black Panther, so they are trained rigorously and they are one of the deadliest fighters in the world. A part of their tradition is for the Dora Milaje to have shaved heads and tribal markings, which makes them even more scary looking. Even their equipment is terrifying, as they come equipped with Vibrainum armor and weaponry, so they stand as Black Panther’s side as protectors, but they do occasionally travel on their own individual missions if their King orders them to.
The Dora Milaje aren’t exactly a military force, as they basically serve as bodyguards, but in special times of need their numbers grow exponentially, like during CIVIL WAR (2006) when over 500 Dora Milaje went to aid Black Panther in defending their precious country. Each Dora Milaje is selected from one Wakandan tribe, and they devote their entire lives to serving their leader. the Black Panther. But their devotion to Wakanda is even greater than their devotion to the Black Panther.
