Once more, Blizzard shooter Overwatch is the platform of controversy in a recent case of a Torbjorn main being suspended.
According to a statement posted on the official forums, a player has been banned by the game’s reporting system for not playing as part of the team in an efficient manner. It has been stressed that this was not because of the overuse of one particular character, in this case being Torbjorn, but rather that there had been constant examples of unwillingness to co-operate with teammates. This therefore led to the ban, and was left with the suggestion of communicating with teammates more and perhaps even forming their own team from scratch.
User XUL claimed that he was banned for one tricking, though the player didn’t appeal the ban. Forum users also point out that XUL has been banned before, with the situation also bringing in well known Overwatch streamer Fuey500 into the mix, prompting a response from Blizzard.
Community manager Josh Engen stated:
After investigating a number of the cases that have been surfaced over the past 24 hours, we can confirm that the system is working as intended. None of these were simple cases of “one tricking” or off-meta hero selection. These were examples of behavior intended to disrupt Competitive Play. As such, the punishments will stand.
So as Blizzard has cleared up, reports for disruptive behavior to competitive play will result in punishment, regardless of the reasoning behind it. If you’d like to join in the discussion, head over to the official forums or leave a comment in the section below.
