When Blizzard decided to make Overwatch what it was, a competitive shooter game that had its focus on multiplayer yet had a large and diverse set of characters, it knew story had to be relegated to something else. Now, for most games, this would mean tidbits and lore spread throughout the game world, and they did that certainly. But also, Blizzard makes animated shorts and comics to show off their vast world even more. Recently, Junkertown was revealed to be a new map for players to play, and Blizzard has been unfolding the story of that place ever since.
First, they did a trailer of the map itself, then, they showed off a video (see below) about how Junkrat and Roadhog were tied to the place, and how they were kicked out of it. But now, a new comic dives even deeper into that story. Called Junkertown: Wasted Land, this 10-page comic focuses on how Junkrat and Roadhog became a team, and even show them getting out of a jam after Junkrat opens his mouth, and doesn’t shut it.
But what the comic really does is give us more insight into Roadhog himself. Usually a very quite character, we get to see how he became one of the most feared characters in Overwatch, including showing his legendary hook in action.
Also, we see him interact with other people who know his real name, and how he’s come to live in the hole that is Junkertown. And when he meets Junkrat? Yep, it’s a match made in heaven.
Check out the comic, and let us know what you thought about it and the upcoming map in the comments below!
