The botting epidemic took another turn recently for Diablo III. Blizzard have swung the ban hammer once more, this time cracking down on at least 300 Chinese players for botting. This added fuel to the fire of bots being used to top the game’s leaderboards recently, to the dismay of many.
From this, players are now calling for permabans to be introduced to those who decide to use bots in Diablo III. In a method that has been similarly applied to fellow Blizzard game Overwatch, permanent bands would prevent players from purchasing other accounts to use after they have been initially banned.
Battle.net user PsychSamuria posted the following on the official forums:
Blizzard need to “perma ban”(not allow to purchase another D3 account) botters like they with cheaters in Overwatch. Otherwise many botters will come back and dominate the leaderboards again.
I understand Blizzard make profit from botters purchasing new accounts. But this small profit shouldn’t justify ruining the fun for every legit D3 players.
The calls for stricter punishments seem to grow week on week for Diablo III, and it raises the question as to how Blizzard will decide to approach the situation, and whether they are willing to sacrifice the ability of purchasing seperate accounts to bring more balance to the game. User Shurgosa meanwhile came up with a rather humorous idea:
what I would absolutely advocate is that they perma ban botting losers, then keep a list of who the losers are. Then allow said loser to purchase the game again. and then just ban the loser again for fun a week or month later.
