Video games often have interesting beginnings, and when they become famous, you don’t always see where the path is going. For Portal, the game was made by a bunch of college students, who were then found by Valve and hired to make the game in full. Put in the Orange Box, it became an instant hit. Then, Valve made Portal 2, which was so good it got nominated for Game of the Year, among other awards. Yet, nothing came out after it, until now that is. For a new spinoff has been revealed in Bridge Constructor Portal.
Yes, you read that right, Bridge Constructor Portal. This mash-up of two classic puzzle series may seem odd at first, but you might be surprised at just what the game will be bringing. For in it, you’ll have to use trucks and portals to help build bridges and solve puzzles. It won’t be easy, but Portal nor Bridge Constructor never was. The game will not be made by Valve though, instead, it’ll be developed by Headsup Games:
“For the last year we’ve been secretly working in our underground labs on the next iteration of the million-selling Bridge Constructor series. This new stand-alone title will release on PC, MacOS, Linux, mobile devices, and console, and fully embraces the Portal license, one of the most beloved video game franchises of the last decade.”
As you can see in the reveal trailer above, the game isn’t just “borrowing” elements from Portal, it’s integrating them full stop. From the name of the company within Portal, Aperture Science, to the portals themselves, the look of the game, and of course, GLaDOS, who returns in all her AI glory to haunt you to your death.
Most interestingly of all though is that the game isn’t too far from release. In fact, it’s coming out on December 20th on PC, Mac, and Linux, with console versions coming in 2018.
