When you think about the fighting game franchises that fill up the video game industry, you think about series like Tekken, Smash Bros. Marvel Vs. Capom, Mortal Kombat, King of Fighters, and more. But one game series, in particular, helped set the standard for what these fighting games could be, what they could truly be, and that was Street Fighter. The simple yet addictive title is so revered that Capcom has released updated versions of multiple titles just so fighting game fans can scratch their itch. But now, they’re going to give them the ultimate gift, they’re giving them the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection.
That’s right, 30 years of Street Fighter in one place. But, in a twist, the collection will focus on most of the earlier games in the series. For in it will be the original Street Fighter, then Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II: Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter III, Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact and Street Fighter III: Third Strike.
So, missing from this collection is Street Fighter IV, Super Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter V, and, of course, the upcoming Street Fighter V Arcade Edition. But, given those games are still fairly recently (and still purchasable), it’s not hard to see why they’re excluding them from the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection.
The collection will feature 60 characters, and even have online play for some of its titles. So now you can kick but old-school style while bringing the new age flair in a way the original games wish they could’ve had.
So, whether you’ve been with the series since its arcade debut in 1987, or you’re a new fan who wants to see the evolution of the franchise, the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection is something you’ll definitely want to get. The collection will come to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in May 2018.
