It is a sad day in a galaxy not so far, far, away. For today, we lost a princess. Princess Leia, aka Carrie Fisher, has died.
The Star Wars actress had a massive heart attack on an airplane last week, and had to be rushed to the hospital for care. Though she did make it into stable condition, and lasted there a few days, it appears she just couldn’t hang on any longer, and passed.
Carrie Fisher was most known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars films, being the leading lady in basically every facet of the word, as the original films didn’t have many female lead roles. She charmed people with her bluntness, wit, charm, and beauty. But also, she showed that women can be princesses, and still kick major butt. As she not only fought and led the Rebel Alliance, but was on the battlefields in every film she was in. This includes Force Awakens, where she got to reprise her role as Leia once more, much to the delight of fans.
Though she is gone, her story will always live on. As will Leia, through the Marvel Comics line, who are publishing new stories featuring Leia to this day. As for exploits, though Star Wars is the big one, she was also a wizard with a script, and was known throughout Hollywood for revising and editing scripts to make them better. She’s worked on blockbusters like Hook, Sister Act 2, Lethal Weapon 3, and even the Star Wars prequels, adding to her SW legacy in a big way.
This has been a hard year for fans of all genres and fandoms. We believed that maybe we could make it to 2017 without another major death. Sadly, with the passing of Ms. Carrie Fisher, that dream was dashed. But, much like Leia would say, we have to have hope for a better future.
