One of the very interesting things about Kickstarter is that some people use the service to try and fund all their projects. If for no other reason than they know that the fanbase that helped them the first time may help them the next time, and the time after that. They get a reputation for making good products, and that helps them get funded. For video game projects, this can be extremely useful, and such is the case with a new title called Cultist Simulator: Behold Our End.
Why does this one stand out? Well, it’s being made by Alexis Kennedy, who is known for the Fallen London and Sunless Sea. These titles were very unique, and players absolutely loved them. This is her first title that isn’t a part of that series, so she’s going to Kickstarter to get it funded, and it’s certainly an out there title like the previous two.
Cultist Simulator isn’t what you might expect genre wise. In fact, it’s a “narrative crafting digital card game” where you will pick cards, combine them with other cards, and see where the story takes you. You’ll want to try and grow your power base, connect with the gods known as The Hours, get a following so you can get even more done, and so on and so forth.
Even more interesting is that as you try and grow in power, there will be others who try to stop you, such as the authorities themselves. And of course, the gods may have a say in what you do and don’t do.
The game has multiple endings, ones that are good, ones that are bad, and ones that probably shouldn’t be talked about here. Cultist Simulator does have an Alpha you can try before going and potentially pledging to the game, so if you’re interested, try it out.
