Let us be clear here, no developer makes a video game to fail. Or at the very least, no TRUE video game developer makes a game to fail. All want to succeed. All want fame or glory, and more thank likely, profit. But, some video game ventures don’t work out, and some developers have to put a lot on the line in order to make things happen. That’s exactly what the team at StudioMDHR Entertainment Inc. did for their title Cuphead. They wanted to make something unique, and they risked it all to do it.
How so? Well, they were so dedicated to their games that they not only put their money where their mouths were, but they put their houses and basically their lives on the line to try and make the game they believed in. And we’re very happy to say that their success is now confirmed. For on Steam alone, the game has sold over 1 million copies. This comes from SteamSpy, which shows they’ve reached the amazing milestone.
And it’s worth noting that Cuphead was also released on both Xbox One and GOG, so it’s highly likely that the numbers for the sales are much greater than this. But, the fact that it’s crossed one million on one platform alone is worthy of praise, especially one as famous as Steam.
Who can blame gamers for liking it so much? It’s truly unlike anything they’ve seen before. The game’s visuals are modeled after the earliest cartoons of Disney and other companies. The gameplay is difficult, as you have to fight boss after boss with your only help coming from your co-op partner, if you bring one! Everything is just so crisp and amazing that it’s hard not to fall in love with the game.
So congrats to the team, and we hope that the sales continue to roll in.
