Despite only just being implemented into the game, it appears as if the developers of Dead by Daylight are going to be nerfing Freddy Krueger. The Nightmare on Elm Street antagonist recently joined the killer roster for the asymmetrical horror experience, and has been subjected to debuffs as detailed in a recent live stream.
A segment of fans believed that Freddy was overpowered at launch, and has in turn been subject to a few changes. For example, survivors will now get 10 seconds before appearing in Freddy’s vision in Dream State should you lose him, whilst his speed is also being reduced when chasing someone in the Dream. The time in which to fall into the Dream has also been increased.
Whether or not you feel that Freddy needed to be nerfed or not depends entirely on which side of the fence you are on. But it’s arguable that regardless of whether it was required, it is most certainly extremely poor timing. Since Freddy is brand new to the game, changing him right away seems like a strange decision, and an understandably unpopular one. Players have the right to feel hard done by, given that they have intially paid for one thing and are now getting another.
A lot of killer mains will feel that Freddy is an average killer, compared to some of the others available to them. If that is the case, then the nerfs that have been suggested would make him particularly weak. Not only that, but the fact that they have responded to the complaints with nerfs doesn’t help their reputation of pandering to survivors who feel like the injured party on many occasions.
Sadly, the Dead by Daylight community seems to be one that is completely divided, depending on whether they choose to play as killers or survivors. I personally tend to dabble in both, so i’m not directly affected by Freddy’s nerfs in particular. But to have nerfed him so quickly after players have handed over their hard earned cash will leave a sour taste, especially for the many who feel he didn’t need to be nerfed in the first place.
