Destiny 2 has had a massive slate of problems ever since it launched in September. Many of them though concerned things that players felt was “off” or “wrong”. One of the biggest ones however was the XP system, which had a very weird scaling aspect that only worked in certain situations. The fans loudly protested this feature, and eventually, Bungie listened. And recently, they shut down the old scaling system and implemented a new one. But, not everything is working as planned with it.
For as many have noticed, the API has not gone in line with the new system. Making players very curious as to what’s going on. However, Bungie did reply to this on Twitter:
The Destiny 2 API has yet to be adjusted to reflect the recent in game change to earned XP. We are working on an API update to address the discrepancy. The correct value to earn an additional level is 160,000 XP.

Unfortunately for Bungie, this tweet only added more to the anger of the fans. As 160,000 XP for just one Bright Engram is a LOT, and players are making that known. Especially since Bungie basically confirmed that their XP “balance” just doubled the amount of XP needed for an item, when at the very least it should’ve lowered it a little.
On Reddit, Destiny 2 players are extremely unhappy, calling out Bungie for their decision making. Because in their eyes, the devs just made it so the players have to work even harder just to get something, which isn’t what they asked for. They wanted to gain levels and items a bit more easily, but instead, this change has made it even harder.
It’s unclear what Bungie will do once they see all this backlash, but one way or another, the players will be heard about it.
