There are a lot of elements that go into making a world for a video game. It’s not just about the characters, and the plot that’ll wind people through the world, it’s about the look and history of the world too. For the backstory of the game world, mixed with the visuals can give you a sense of awe and wonder that won’t go away. But, for fans of Destiny, the wonder has gone away, and not in the way you might think it did.
This comes from Redditor Zokrux, who loves the Destiny series, but also believe the game suffered greatly when 2 was released. For you see, in his mind, what made the original special was its very dark and mature tone. This game was about the dead being brought back to life, an apocalypse waiting to return, a bad guy that thrived off of fear, very grand tones. But then, for the sequel, it was more comedy based.
And not just in the supporting cast (where comedy can be fine), but also in the villain too. For he may look intimidating, but in Zokrux eyes, he’s just a “cheesy Ghost full of bad jokes that completely blue-balls the atmosphere of the original”
That’s the other thing they feel that Destiny 2 botched from the original, the atmosphere. Though there are more places to explore, it just doesn’t hold the same appeal as the original game did. There’s no wonder in exploring it like it was before.
So, what do they want? They would love the series to return to it more mature roots. To give stories about darkness and truly fighting impossible odds. To expand the universe of Destiny and show how small we are, yet also show we’re not willing to give up.
And based on the upvotes for that Reddit thread? A lot of people agree with him.
