Adding a completely new hero to a game like Overwatch can completely throw the game off balance. Blizzard Entertainment surely has experience in it, and know what they are doing. Since they added Ana to the heroes roster in Overwatch, the game had some unbalance and some changes needed to be made in order to smooth things up a bit. And as any new hero in a first-person shooter game like Overwatch, Ana was boosted at the beginning just enough to find her rhythm in the game, but after a while it was time for obvious change. Such a change brought dissatisfaction in some of the Ana mains, and one of them is Avian.
Avian decided to express his negative emotions regarding this topic and states that people are forgetting the design philosophy of the hero. To the question “Was Ana good before the change” he answered;
Absolutely not, however that doesn’t mean that the changes she got were good. The rifle nerf is awful as it goes directly against her design philosophy and her target audience. The “broken” aspect about Ana wasn’t her damage (which was low) but her Biotic Grenade.
Along with Sleep Dart, Biotic Grenade was the combo which made Ana indestructible when enemies tried to dive her. Now after a complete nerf, she is easily killed and Avian really put their mind and feelings in the post on the official Battle.net forums. They also came up with solutions on how to balance the hero, and one of their suggestions is to increase the damage done by Biotic Rifle to 70, but not to remove the healing from her, as it’s her only self-sustainable spell with a 10 seconds cooldown. With low mobility, the only defensive attack she has is Sleep Dart, and with 12 seconds Avian thinks some things need to change, and change fast.
If you disagree with these suggestions like many other Overwatch players, check the post on the official Overwatch forum on the link above.
