For a while now, the RPG Divinity: Original Sin 2 has been teasing 6 playable origin characters. But while the first five had been revealed, the 6th was shrouded in mystery. A previous trailer teased that it might be a member of the undead, but without conclusive proof that it was exactly that. Now, via a post on their website, we can confirm that the undead are playable in the game, and you will get to be one at the beginning. They’re called the Fane, and we’ll detail what they can do.
What separates Fane from the other origin characters is multi-layered. First (and most obvious of all), is that he’s undead, and he most definitely looks the part. In fact, how he looks is very important, as you’ll have to cover Fane up in the game when you go into town, else the people will be scared of you and run away! That won’t be helpful if you’re trying to advance through quests and such. What’s more, how he works as a character is a bit opposite from his living counterparts. Healing potions? They hurt him, but poisons heal him, so you’ll have to remember that.
Interestingly enough, Divinity: Original Sin 2 will allow you to choose what race your undead being is from. This matters as that will affect how you look in skeletal form, which can make you look a bit different than you might think. It’s also important to note that Fane’s abilities will not translate to what you are as a being, meaning that if you choose to be an undead Elf, you won’t have an Elf’s traits, you’ll have different ones.
Oh, and that thing you’ll need to use to disguise yourself? Well, it needs a fresh corpse to make it work. Good luck sleeping at night!
Divinity: Original Sin 2 arrives on September 14th.
