Back in the 90s, Doomtrooper was a collectible card game set in the post-apocalyptic universe from a pen-and-paper role-playing game called Mutant Chronicles. Today, Doomtrooper is being brought current generation platforms through Kickstarter. Developing company Secret Cow Level hopes to bring the 90s magic back to life with a goal of only $15,000.
This rebooted version of Doomtrooper aims to stay as close to the original game as possible. Secret Cow Level and Cabinet have worked closely with the original creator of the game, Bryan Winter, in order to “evolve the rules slightly while making sure the original Doomtrooper game is kept intact!” This means that the core idea of the card battling game will remain the same, which is good news for fans of the franchise. The Kickstarter is being run by passionate fans. According to Justin Reynard of Secret Cow Level, he has “always wanted to do something within the Doomtrooper universe” and used to play the game with his friends in his local comic book store.
The Kickstarter is asking for $15,000 to complete the core game which includes deck building, and online play. The developers have listed a number of backer rewards like exclusive cards and avatars, alpha and beta access, and even the chance to work with the developers and Bryan Winter to design your own card. The top tier, for $10,000, would give you an Executive Producer credit on the game if you’re really serious about it.
If you were a fan of the original game or simply want another card game to play, be sure to check out the Doomtrooper Kickstarter. As of writing this article, it has 29 days to go and has been backed for around $4,300. This is an all or nothing project which means that if Doomtrooper doesn’t reach its goal, it won’t be giving out the Kickstarter rewards.
