Dragon Ball FighterZ is already one of the most anticipated games of 2018. Since its reveal at E3 2017 it has been a topic of conversation by diehard fans of the genre, as well as casual fans who think that the game just looks dang cool. The style is very reminiscent of the anime, yet it plays like Marvel vs. Capcom, or in this specific case, Guilty Gear, as it’s made by the team behind it. More and more details seem to be coming out for it every week, but a new set of details is going to raise eyebrows.
You see, pre-orders for the game have gone live, and with that came the reveal of Ultimate Edition for Dragon Ball FighterZ. While that’s not weird per se (as special editions are all the rage for big titles like this), one thing that’s included in this ultimate edition is “FighterZ Pass”, which includes 8 new characters for the game.
Now THAT is odd. While a Season Pass isn’t odd for fighting games (Xenoverse 2 had one), this one is rooted within the Ultimate Edition. Meaning, if this is accurate, that these 8 characters won’t be accessible to anyone else. That…will cause issues with the fanbase. Especially if A) these are some fan-favorite characters and B) these characters are powerful enough to shake the balance of the game in the favor of any who have them.
To be fair, this is still early, and it could be that this special pass will give them access to the characters early, while others with standard editions have to wait until certain times to get them. That might be ok, but we don’t know as of yet.
As for what else is in the Dragon Ball FighterZ Ultimate Edition, you’ll get an Anime Music Pack comprised of 11 tracks from the anime, and special commentary packs from the team behind the game.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is set to arrive in 2018.
