Mortal Kombat co-creator and creative director of NetherRealm Studios Ed Boon loves to tease us every now and again, and he appears to have done so once more regarding the next character to be revealed in Injustice 2.
During an interview with DC All Access, Boon points out that little teases have been left on certain images, stating the following around the two-minute mark of the video above:
“We gave little teases — little shadow images behind them. One of them looked kind of unmistakably like Black Manta, so… There’s a chance he’s in there.”
With the subject swiftly moving onto the addition of classic MK character Sub-Zero and his inclusion in Injustice 2, that was all that was to be said regarding the upcoming release of the character. So without an official confirmation from Boon, but rather just a nod to the fact that Black Manta could be making an appearance at some point, we aren’t any wiser as to who to expect to be announced in the future.
Though to some it may seem like a sure thing that the silhouette is indeed Black Manta, its worth remembering that Boon has teased us with sure fire silhouettes before that have turned out to be a completely different character. Going back to Mortal Kombat X, a similar situation occurred in which a shadow image clearly resembled MK character Baraka, only for it to be revealed as the Xenomorph after all.
So it does raise suspicion as to who will be revealed next. After all, any humanoid character could represent Black Manta if the helmet was removed. Perhaps its shapeshifting from Plastic Man, who knows?
