The MMO counterpart to the otherwise single-player Elder Scrolls series, the Elder Scrolls Online, recently released a game update that came along with their newest DLC. While most of the larger changes that came with the update went over well with the community, there is one change in particular that some players aren’t a fan of.
Reddit user SleeplessTuesday makes it known that the new ‘visual clarity” in combat is not ideal for him and other players who like to see their ally’s visual effects. According to the patch notes, “In an effort to reduce the visual effect noise in group combat situations” the developers have “hidden most visual effects from persistent damaging area of effect abilities cast by your allies.” A large number of abilities have been affected by this change, the full list of which you can see on an Imgur post from SleeplessTuesday.
SleeplessTuesday claims that they “used to like seeing people’s attacks and now there’s just nothing.” Commenters on the Reddit post, like Thugglebunny, actually like the change, as they have a lower end PC and simply can’t keep up with all the visual affects happening on screen. Both of these opinions are, of course, quite valid.
No matter the opinion of the player, however, it seems as though the general consensus is that this ‘visual clarity’ should be toggle-able. Currently, players have no option to turn the visual effects back on, but it would certainly improve many player’s experience if the option was there. It is a small, likely easily-implemented change that would make the community happy, so hopefully the developers pick it up.
