One of the biggest problems with online gaming is the fact that you need to be online to play, which can be problematic depending on where you are in the world. Servers are only placed in certain areas to try and cover all the gamers who want to play it, but even then, for games like Overwatch, there’s going to be problems. And for those in Australia, this is a current issue, and one that players are asking for help on.
This particular plea for help is coming from Redditor fatcatthathatesyou, who notes that the Oceania servers are not functioning as they should. She states:
“Servers will randomly shut off during peak AU times and put us all on servers with 150 MINIMUM ping.”
High ping can lead to many problems for online gamers, including lag, which can make a game unplayable. What’s more, apparently updates for Overwatch also hurt the game. The recent arrival of the Junkenstein’s Revenge event caused many problems on the Oceania servers as things “worked themselves out.”
As if that wasn’t enough, these issues have apparently been going on for months with no end in sight. Blizzard hasn’t done much (in their eyes) to fix the situation. So their options are either play and hope for the best, or don’t play and miss out on a game they love. Neither is appealing. They don’t even ask for a full-on server dedicated to their region, all they want is a way to tell if a viable server is nearby and able to be played with no lag.
Other Redditors jumped in and threw in support for this. Some even noted that this wasn’t just an Australian problem, but also one found in Southeast Asia.
It look as though Blizzard should really get a handle on this, as all players deserve to play their games on equal footing.
