Recently, the team at Grinding Gear Games, the ones behind Path Of Exile, asked fans to send in any questions they may have regarding the game. Within reason, of course. The community responded in droves, so the team spent as much time as they could answering those questions. But, there were so many that they had to release the Q&A separately so that they wouldn’t overload readers.
Here’s a selection from the Path of Exile Q&A. One player asked how the Grinding Gear Games team came up with the idea of the various leagues present in the game, to which replied that inspiration came from all over, and sometimes, they’d have an idea for a while but weren’t able to implement it right off. Also, they had to make sure that the leagues fit Path of Exile as well as the game’s needs.
In terms of inventory, one player asked whether there would be a button that could allow them to auto-sort instead of having to manually sort the items as they do now. The team stated simply that it was unlikely not because it’s a technical challenge since other games have done it before, but rather a question of making the items “feel real”. The team wants you to feel the weight and responsibility of carrying every item, and thus the reason for unlikeliness of an auto sort function.
Finally, another player asked if there would ever be an “offline version” of Path of Exile. By that, he means a version that doesn’t need to be connected to servers, and thus can be “preserved forever” for gamers who want to play it. They cite Diablo II as an example of the concept. The team shot that idea down stating that running the servers actually isn’t hard or expensive but keeping the studio going is. They just don’t see the game in a place where it would need an offline mode. Plus, trying to make that mode would be very time-consuming.
There will be more Q&A releases later on, so stay tuned for more.
