Pokemon is easily one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises. It sells millions every time it releases a main game on their handhelds, and spinoffs do well too. In fact, Pokemon Sun and Moon were the fastest selling games in the franchise upon release. So, when news of the Nintendo Switch came out, a lot of people were wondering whether there would be a dedicated Pokemon title for the Switch.
Well, one of the members of Game Freak, the team behind the games, did say that there would be a Pokemon game for Switch, but we didn’t know in what capacity, or when it would come out. Then, when Nintendo updated their list of games coming to the Switch, the Pokemon logo was in one of the bracketed windows. Now, we have definitive confirmation that Game Freak is working on a Pokemon game, as they’ve posted ads seeking help for a console game for a “title that just about everyone knows.”
The company has posted two ads, in fact, looking for people to join the company. The first was a consulting job, one that you would do to assist programmers and make sure the data was good. The tag that caught people’s eyes though was that it said, “Here’s a chance to work on the development of a globally popular RPG!” Since Game Freak posted it, that seems to point to Pokemon.
The other one was asking for character modelers, ones that could make models to the skill level of a Wii U or Vita title. If that part is confusing, it means that they want people who make incredibly detailed models for an HD platform. This is something that Pokemon has only had once before, not counting Super Smash Bros., as Pokken Tournament was the only “true” game from the franchise on Wii U in many aspects.
So, is a Nintendo Switch game coming? Seems so. But to what end? The timing on the contracts state that the time frame would be until May 2018, so could it be coming late next year. Only Nintendo and Game Freak knows for sure.
