It’s a hard fact of video game making that sometimes things don’t work out. Despite heavy time and money to make games, sometimes they just don’t sell, or develop well enough to fulfill. This even happens with properties that are very respected. Take, for example, Ghost In The Shell. The legendary anime and manga has been developed into many things over the years, and that includes a video game that’s on Steam right now called First Assault. Unfortunately, the team has decided to not pursue further development of it.
Ghost In The Shell: First Assault launched on Steam in 2016, and tried to use the world of the classic anime to build a first-person shooter worthy of the universe. Unfortunately, Steam players didn’t seem to like it. The game has mixed reviews in the user base, and the more recent reviews have been very negative. As for what the team thinks, they just don’t feel it’ll be worth the effort to try and continue.
In a statement, they noted: “we decided that continued development wasn’t going to help the game become what we all hoped it could become.”
To be clear, the game will not be shutting down immediately. Rather, they’ll be supporting it until December 6th, and then it will shut down. For those who have purchased items within the game within the last year, you will receive NX for your troubles. If the items were purchased after February 27th of this year, you’ll get a 100% refund. For before then, you’ll get a 50% refunded.
The team is grateful to all who played this Ghost In The Shell game, it was because of your support that they discussed long and hard about what to do with the game. But ultimately, they felt it was best to end things as they are.
