When it comes to TV shows based off of classic comic characters, one of the biggest questions is whether the formidable “Rogues Gallery” will join them. For the DC/CW shows in particular, they attempt this quite often. This goes even more so for The Flash, who is documented as having one of the best Rogues Galleries in all of comics, even rivalling Batman’s in some ways.
However, just because a Rogue can come into the show, doesn’t mean it’ll be possible for one reason or another. Often there are times where a character may be “too fantastic” or require a lot of special effects/CGI to make it work. This was, and is, the problem with Gorilla Grodd, one of the all-time classic Flash films. As a full-on gorilla, one that can talk, the show is wise to not use him often. Yet, between Geoff Johns, and the Flash creative team, they’ve had him in multiple episodes. Including two that were headlined by him. Now, the voice actor behind Grodd, David Sobolov, has revealed that he, and Grodd, will be back on Flash in 2017.
This substantiates some leaked images and rumors that saw Grodd and Flash in a scene that wasn’t in previous episodes. What’ll be interesting is how they bring him back into the fold. For in Flash Season 02, they sent Grodd off through a portal to Earth-2, where he found Gorilla City, a place straight from DC Comics lore that houses very intelligent gorillas like Grodd.
The Flash returns to CW on January 24th.
