ESport is quickly becoming one of the biggest sports leagues on the planet. With various games from numerous genres getting focus all over the world, and an ever increasing amount of leagues popping up to showcase new teams and players, it’s a massive business. But one of the biggest such leagues is the GSL, short for Global StarCraft II League.
The quarterfinals of the GSL Season 1 have already begun, with matches on display from TY, soO, Stats, and INnoVation. If you weren’t able to catch them, they are still available to watch. All of the matches were very intense, and all of them went the full five rounds.
On Friday, February 24 at 8:00 pm PST, the games continue, with day 2 of the GSL Season 1 quarterfinals. Day 2 will feature a double mirror match with herO taking on sOs and Maru pitted against Ryung.
Match 1 will be between the weekend warrior, herO, and the StarCraft II money man himself, sOs. In past matches and tournaments, herO hasn’t done well against sOs. Especially when sOs has time to prepare, for he can be unpredictable and deadly when he’s able to think ahead. His character builds are tailor made to the player, and he’s very good at getting in their head. But sOs is no slouch, and herO will have to be careful when facing him.
The Terran duel between Maru and Ryung will be the second match of the night. Ryung is considered to be the underdog, though he does have two things going for him. First, he knocked out the world champion Byun in the round of 32. Second, Maru is historically weak against Terran. But, he did go through two Terran players to get to the quarterfinals, so it may not be as lopsided as people predict.
You can watch the GSL matches when they air via Twitch or Afreeca TV.
