A new expansion has been announced for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, and this one is wild. Figuratively and literally. As the Year of the Mammoth cycles in, we’ll be seeing The Grand Tournament and League of Explorers cycle out, in favor of this newest expansion, Journey To Un’Goro.
This expansion already promises to introduce many incredible new mechanics. First, a new minion type, Elementals. While this will influence the minions we see in the expansion, minions from previous sets will also be changed if they fit the elemental archetype. This includes Ragnaros, Magma Rager, Ice Rager, Al’Akir, and many more.
Then, there are dinosaurs who get a new keyword called Adapt. Adapt allows a minion to attach one of numerous random effects to itself, such as increased attack, windfury, taunt, and many others.
Finally, perhaps the biggest announcement of this expansion is the addition of Quest Cards. These cards, which can be played upon starting the game, will allow players the opportunity to set parameters for themselves, such as “Play 7 Deathrattle Minions” which will add a special card to your hand. The example card shown was a 5-Mana 8/8 with a battlecry, set your hero’s health to 40. This is perhaps the most powerful card we’ve ever seen in Hearthstone.
Quests appear where secrets would normally go upon being played, and other players will be able to see their opponent’s quests, mainly so they can keep their wits about them. The options are plentiful it seems, and Blizzard will keep posting new cards starting March 17th. This begs the question of any upcoming news at PAX East. Journey to Un’Goro will launch in early April.
