A little while back, during a Nintendo Direct Mini, an indie game was shown off in the form of Celeste. It was a simple platformer game from the people behind Towerfall. The game was all about ascending up a mountain, and you would have only a few controls the whole game, but that was all you needed to get through it. Oh, and it’s also a very difficult title, yet one that feels rewarding when you accomplish those challenges.
Anyway, the game released recently, and a wave of praise has been thrown on Celeste. Several perfect reviews have been given to it, and even those that aren’t perfect have given it high marks for its surprisingly deep story, very fun and difficult gameplay, and more. But, as in all things, people are wondering where the game has sold the most. The game was a multiplatform release, but, according to the creators, the Nintendo Switch version came out on top.
“The Switch version of Celeste has sold the most, and that’s what we were expecting. We feel like Celeste and the Switch are a perfect fit for each other. We are glad we launched on all consoles though, and we really appreciate the support we’ve seen across the board.” said the creators to Destructoid.
Now, exact numbers weren’t given, but, even if it’s only a few thousand more so far, that’s still a big deal. What’s really interesting is that they said that they were expecting Celeste to do the best on Switch. This follows a trend of indie games absolutely killing it on Nintendo’s newest system. Death Squared, Oceanhorn, and more have come forward to note how popular their games are on the Switch in comparison to other systems or PC.
