Injustice 2 made a lot of promises while it was being made. One of which was that its roster would be full of unique and special characters, and not all of them would be “known” by mainstream culture. Well, with the games Fighter Pack 2, they’re living up to that promise, as surprise entrant Hellboy was revealed. This character hails from Dark Horse comics, and has a cult following of sorts that has led him to being in two live-action movies, with a third on the way, and several animated films. And now, he’s in a video game.
Hellboy is more than just a demon, he’s a conduit for the end of the world. He was summoned by Nazi’s in an attempt to win the war, but instead, was found by the Allies and Professor Broom, his father. He was raised to be a hero, and thus was a key part of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Which helps stop paranormal and magical entities from trying to take over. Yet, Hellboy is always fighting his “destiny”, which is to end the world.
Injustice 2 seems to be making good use of his mythology in his moveset. Right of the bat we see that he’s a brutal up close and personal fighter. Using his “right hand of doom” to do some big attacks to foes. But he also has some other classic compliments, like his six-shooter gun, some tactical gear courtesy of the B.R.P.D., and even a sword straight from the comics.
But arguably most important, Hellboy still has his sense of humor. The line “I’m so over this crap,” is perfectly in tune with his personality. Oh, and he can also go into his full demon form, though what it does is a bit unclear at present.
Hellboy will join Injustice 2 on November 15th.
