The Hitman franchise has been to some interesting places the last few years. A while back it was one of the most popular video game franchises, and was selling millions of copies via its last major title, Absolution. But then, the team at IO-Interactive went a different direction with the series, they decided to go episodic, a first for the franchise, and for the most part, it worked. Hitman: Season 01 was a hit, so much so that the team released a Game of the Year Edition for the title on the 7th.
In a blog post, the CEO of IO-Interactive Hakan Abrak opened up about not only the game, but the past and future of the company. For you see, for the last long while, IO-Interactive was a part of Square Enix, but then this year they became an official indie game company, something that Hakan noted was something they need to focus on, as they needed to sustain themselves in this new dynamic.
That’s why he was happy to announce that with the GOTY edition for Hitman – Season 01 there will be new content for it for the first time since the conclusion of the season. In his mind, it’s their way of saying “Thank you” for supporting the game so much. In fact, he noted that 7 million people have been a part of the game, that’s a major accomplishment for sure.
Now, if you’re wondering what’s next for the team, wonder no more. Harak confirmed officially that the Hitman franchise will continue, and that they’re working very hard right now on the next official game. Which will apparently feature some new things to the franchise. That’s right, franchise firsts are coming.
Sadly, he won’t divulge anymore, and states that new information won’t be coming until 2018, so we’ll have to be patient until then.
