Overwatch celebrated its one-year anniversary with a special event that could allow players to get some Legendary Skins for its characters. Skins are great for players, especially as a commemorative element, because they allow them to add a bit of a different personality to their favorite characters. However, the Legendary Skins are the hardest thing to get in the game, and that makes them not only more desirable, but more frustrating when you work so hard to try and get them and fail. This seems to be especially true for this anniversary event.
Take for example Burdman707, who notes on Reddit that he has been playing the anniversary event a lot and has only gotten minimal rewards:
“I play this game a bit too much already, lvl 500+ going for silver, but even with this double XP weekend, I have only 2 of the legends from this event.”
The problem for him is that the only tiers of rewards in this anniversary event are Legendary Skins, and that’s very different from how others have gone down in the past. Burdman believes it was much more balanced before, offering at least the chance to get them after the event by crafting, but he’s only gotten the capacity to do one extra skin through that process.
What also upsets him, and other Overwatch players on Reddit, is that for an anniversary event, they aren’t really that giving with rewards. They feel that Blizzard should be honoring the players by giving them more rewards, not making them fight even harder to get a select few. This isn’t the first time this has happened, as the recent event with Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch skins led to fan frustration when they weren’t made unique.
Other players added their own sorrows about the event and the skins, including how it seems that unique skins are very hard to get:
“I didn’t mind all the legendary skins. I was annoyed that I got Oasis Symmetra 4 times. I swear, duplicates have a higher drop chance than uniques,” states Psychlopic.
One player lamented how she couldn’t spend a lot of time in the event, and thus she has no chance of getting certain rewards. What do you think of this event? Did Blizzard make a mistake with focusing on these Legendary Skins?
