The team behind the online FPS battle royale game Islands of Nyne have updated their site with an official post about what’s coming up for the title. Including news on development, priorities, goals, and the upcoming closed Alpha test.
First up, the team is on track to release the Alpha test soon. Though they aren’t up for setting the date just yet. But it could be revealed in the near future. In regards to level design, the team are making sure that Islands of Nyne isn’t just visually beautiful, but helps support the gameplay as well. They want to make sure there aren’t any “cheats”, or exploitable positions for people to use as they play the game. They want everyone on square footing, and they’re trying hard to achieve that.
For proof of this, you need to look no further than the dome and skybox structure of the map they’ve been showing off. To ensure the game can support it, they’ve not only fixed a lot of collision error bugs, but also, lowered the height of the level. This will be the map they use in the Alpha, so they want it done right and fair.
In the gameplay aspects, Islands of Nyne’s guns have been adjusted so that each weapon has its own specific recoil, as well as its own system for how it fires bullets. This is to ensure that every gun feels unique and that each gun has a “role to fill” in the game. Furthermore, effects have been added to help players know that they are hitting players, as well as alert them when they are being shot at.
Other fixes include the improving of animations, the fixing of bugs and code to ensure that the game runs smoothly, as Pre-Alpha tests apparently had lots of lag and game breaking bugs. Now, all eyes are on the Alpha, where they hope to expand the game even more.
