The PS2 was one of the most successful consoles in the history for a very good reason. Not only did it push gaming in a very positive direction with amazing graphics and processing power, which made for even greater games to be made. But also, it had numerous franchises and titles that helped make the console a must-buy. One of the most beloved of the PS2 era was easily the Jak & Daxter games. While they started out as a simple platforming adventure, they soon became so much more.
Now, the original Jak & Daxter was brought onto the PS4 via the PS Store earlier in the year, but now, Sony is bringing Jak 2, Jak 3, and Jax X Combat Racing to the party in a big way. And in fact, all three of them are arriving on the PS Store on December 6th. So you won’t have to wait too long to play them.
But, what you might like to read is a PlayStation Blog post detailing why Jak 2 and the rest were arguably much more important the original Jak & Daxter game. For in the sequel, they added one key change that made the game totally different: They let Jak talk.
A small change? You’d think that. But the original game didn’t let him talk, Daxter was your mouthpiece, so only certain storytelling devices could happen. But, because of Jak’s new voice, developer Naughty got to delve into a much deeper and darker story. One that allowed both Jak and Daxter to evolve in their own ways. This is why Jak 2 and Jak 3 are arguably not just more important than the original, but also more popular. Plus, it was because of the success of these games that led to Naughty Dog making the Uncharted and Last of Us series.
The entire Jak & Daxter series can be bought separately for $14.99. Or, they can be bought as a bundle for $39.99.
