One of the things that separates Overwatch from the other Blizzard games is that it really appears at times that the development team is listening to the players. They have constantly, and even maybe consistently, read feedback from players and worked to fix the game to make players happy. There’s been a lot of things going on behind-the-scenes with the team, but Director Jeff Kaplan popped onto Battle.net to ensure fans that they’re still listening, and that changes are coming. Including some much-desired changes that fans have requested.
First up? Mercy. She’s been a source of much discussion, and not always in a good way. Players feel that not only is she too powerful, but that there’s no reason to use the other healer Ana. Kaplan agrees that Mercy has become to powerful. Even though he and the team thinks that the recent change/update was good for her, it does make her “too dominant.” So they’re working to fix that, and what’s more, you might be able to see this change on the PTR soon.
Next is Competitive Play. Kaplan wasn’t specific on what’s coming, but he did note that the team is working hard to ensure that Competitive Play gets both improved upon, and fixes the issues that players are having. What’s more, he hopes for this to be a consistent string of updates, and not just one that happens in a major patch.
Kaplan also talked about toxicity in the Overwatch forums, even the ones beyond Battle.net. He notes that they’re working hard to make the community better, and that your help is invaluable in making this happen. So don’t be afraid to report toxic players, as it’ll help make things better.
