For all the love that Overwatch rightfully gets, there’s no doubt that it’s also one of the hardest games to work on because of all the balancing that needs to be done. There are 26 very different characters in the game. Some are attack oriented, some are more defensive, some are tanks, some are healers, some are snipers, and on and on it goes. So the Blizzard team behind the game have to make sure that everything is just right in order to make everyone happy. Easier said than done.
But, that’s why the Public Test Realm exists, as it allows Blizzard to through in changes to a special server, have actual Overwatch players try out the fixes, and see if they make them happy. On Battle.net, the team revealed that both Mercy and Junkrat were getting some changes, and noted why. For Junkrat, his Concussion mine got nerfed a little:
“Junkrat has been enjoying the flexibility his double-charge Concussion Mine provides, but it has now become a bit too easy to throw out huge bursts damage in a large area. With this change he can still dish out similar damage but he must now be more accurate with his tosses.”
As for Mercy, she’s continuing down the path of being nerfed so that she’s not too OP, which is a constant struggle for the Overwatch team. In fact, her latest nerf is happening because the latest one actually contradicted previous ones:
Mercy’s recent Resurrect changes have helped in allowing enemies to have more counter play in dealing with her, but she was able to use Resurrect through Valkyrie enough to largely mitigate the impact of the previous changes. Additionally, we’re toning back the amount of mobility Valkyrie provides through Guardian Angel and reducing its duration to overall reduce the power of this ability.
So there you have it, two big changes two different characters. Let’s hope these work out.
