Final Fantasy XV is one of the most anticipated titles of 2016 and I would count myself among the large audience excited to see this real time action take on this classic RPG franchise. But perhaps one of the most exciting things about this game is that its companion movie, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, will be coming out prior to the game’s official launch. In fact, US citizens can expect the movie in select theaters this August.
The last time the series did something like this, it was Final Fantasy VII’s companion movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children which offered a CG animated experience completely separate from the game. Advent Children’s director will also be working on Kingsglaive, so fans can expect the same level of quality.
This sci-fi film will offer a story separate from the main game, so players who don’t want anything spoiled shouldn’t worry. While this takes place in the same universe and continuity as the upcoming title, it can be expected that not many tie-ins will exist.
Final Fantasy XV will launch on September 30th for PS4 and Xbox One. Currently, there is a Platinum Demo available for download on both platforms, which showcases some of the game’s new mechanics, as well as the environments, day-night cycle, and much more.
It’s also been confirmed that a Final Fantasy XV experience is being developed for PlayStation VR. It has yet to be confirmed if the experience will be available for other VR platforms as well.
Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV will shed light on some of the expansive world of the companion game, while offering top of the line CG animation, and a riveting story of empires under siege. The film will be shown in theaters in Japan starting July 9th, and in select US theaters starting August 19th. The film will also be made available on iTunes and can be pre-ordered now.
