Lol Esports, the official esports outlet for Riot and League of Legends, released a video via Youtube highlighting some of the more memorable scenes from this past weekend’s All-Star Event 2016. Team Ice emerged victorious in the tournament, shutting out many of the top players, like those on South Korea’s LCK, from the glory.
League of Legends ASE 2016
The All-Star Event ran from December 8th to December 11th in Barcelona. Top League of Legends professional players met from around the world to form the two factions, Team Fire and Team Ice. While Team Fire was composed, statistically speaking, of the best of the best and the worst of the best, the talent on Team Ice was a bit more evenly spread.
This proved fortuitous, because Team Ice emerged victorious in the tournament. Actually, they were able to clinch enough points to win the tournament before the final three bouts even took place, with a final score of 1100 points to Team Fire’s 850.
Coming up short for Team Fire was the International Wild Card team GPL of Vietnam. While players Levy and RonOP from GPL helped Team Fire win the One for All and Poro King matches, GPL lost all three of its regional matches against Team Ice.
A major factor in Team Ice’s victory was the 1 vs. 1 Tournament. Uzi, cold as ice himself and from Team Ice’s LPL All-Stars, was the champion of that tournament, but beat out his Ice teammate Maple, from LMS, in the finals. That meant Team Ice would get the 250 points for 1st place, as well as 150 points for second and one of the 50 point prizes for 3rd and 4th.
After that, the spirit of the tournament was lighthearted, as pressure was off for the final three matches. Players took the opportunity to make some unusual choices, and have a little fun. You can see the highlights in the video from LoL Esports.
