Square Enix is known for making RPGs, but their focus in recent years has been on grand and epic scale RPGs like Final Fantasy XV. But as we know, there are other kinds of RPGs out there, so, they made studio Tokyo RPG Factory to help return RPGs to the old ways, mainly JRPGs. Their first title was the well-received game I Am Setsuna. And now, they’re hoping to keep their momentum going with Lost Sphear, which has just gotten its very first story trailer.
Though we knew loosely the story of Lost Sphear before, in this trailer it becomes a lot more clear, and even shows key actions in the process. For example, the world is being “lost”, as memories are vanishing from its people, and when that happens, the world itself begins to vanish. The trailer shows that this happens on both grand scale, and in small scale, as a single person can be lost to a memory, as can an entire town or area.
Yet, our mysterious hero is able to restore the memories, as we see in the trailer. He appears to be using some kind of device to bring the memories back, but it’s unclear. What’s also unclear is how these memories are being lost in the first place, but the trailer seems to indicate it has something to do with the moon above, which may have created the world in the first place.
Lost Sphear also got a new reveal for its battle and traveling system. As the “Vulcosuits” have been revealed. These suits will be available to all character in the main party, and will be able to use “enhanced abilities” both inside of battle and out. How we get them is unknown at present.
Lost Sphear arrives on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on January 23rd, 2018.
