You’d be surprised what kind of games make it Kickstarter, some are indie titles just trying to breathe life for the first time, and others are award-winning titles that have been shown off to the masses, Mages of Mystralia is in the later. The “Harry Potter Meets Zelda” fantasy action game has been shown off at a few PAX events and other locals, and then it went to Kickstarter to ensure it got the funding it needed to be made in full. With 23 days left in the campaign, it’s basically gotten 3 times its goal.
The hook of Mages of Mystralia is two-fold. First, it’s a classic style adventure game where you’ll have to solve puzzles as you go on a quest, but also, you’ll have the ability to craft your very own spells to use in battle and in the world itself. According to the team, there are millions of spell combinations, meaning you can learn and do different spells in every playthrough you do and not get a repeat.
There are four different spell types you can mix in the game Immedi, Actus, Creo, and Ego, each have a different base attribute, and thus when you mix them together with elemental attributes, or, augment them with special Runes, you get all-new spells.
Adding to the epic world is the script, which was written by Ed Greenwood, who is a legend who helped do not only Dungeons and Dragons, but was the inspiration for many classic fantasy stories and RPGs. Add to that an original soundtrack and Mages of Mystralia is something very unique in many different places.
The gameplay is fast-paced, just like the adventure games of old, yet, the game has the look of a modern 2D game with crisp visuals. So, if you’re looking for a new adventure game to sink your teeth into, you might want to support Mages of Mystralia.
