They say the internet isn’t safe, for anyone. At any moment, a virus, malware, or just a straight up hacker can sneak in and ruin everything for you. As someone who has had their email, and even my Skype account, hacked, it’s not fun.
Twitter accounts have also been targeted by hackers, and some pretty big names have been hacked there. Now, Marvel can add its name to the list. As Comicbook.com notes, several Marvel accounts have been hacked today. Starting with the standard Marvel Twitter account, then spreading to the various movie accounts for Marvel films. These include Black Panther, Thor: Rangarok, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, and more. Even, the Marvel/Netflix collaborations shows, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, have fallen prey to this hacker group.
They’re called “Ourmine”, and they left a very simple message on all of those accounts: “Hey, it’s OurMine, Don’t worry we are just testing your security,”.
The Ourmine group is a full on hacker group that has been known to hack big sites like Twitter to show their hacking prowess. They’ve hacked numerous peoples accounts, and even gotten into major sites like BuzzFeed before.
Marvel has taken action, mainly, taking down said tweets, and posting more content accurate stuff to show they are in control once again of their Twitter handles. But you have to wonder what this could mean for not only Marvel, but Twitter going forward. Marvel has stated that they are looking into the situation, and will handle this accordingly, but, with the style these hacker groups use, it’d be very impressive to see anyone charged with hacking in this incident.
In short, Marvel and Twitter need to increase security. Maybe they should call Tony Stark?
