Love or hate the X-Men films, its undeniable that they’ve done quite a lot. In fact, their progress over 15 years is something to be appreciated. As they’ve not only handled a reboot and major cast changes, but done many popular, and unpopular, storylines from the long history of the series.
The most recent trilogy of films ended with X-Men: Apocalypse, and though many are curious about what will come next, Fox seems to be continuing on with their desire to make a full-on X-Men universe. However, one of the biggest players in the reboot universe is unsure if he’s coming back at all.
I speak of course of Michael Fassbender, who’s time as Magneto in First Class, Days of Future Past, and Apocalypse have brought new life, and love, to the fan-favorite anti-hero. And it’s not hard to see why, as he’s put a lot of passion into the role. However, after the “failure” of Apocalypse, and Fox’s uncertainty about the continuation of the current film line, Fassbender himself stated that he was unsure of whether or not he’ll be Magneto again:
“I don’t know to be honest,” he said, “I haven’t made any sort of decision on it because I have no idea what’s happening next with the franchise to be honest.”
Here’s hoping that they get everything in order soon, because Fassbender should come back, because there’s still plenty of potential for stories starring Magneto. While its undeniable that some characters are departing the franchise, it doesn’t mean all of them have to. Time will tell.
