Monster Monpiece, the mature card battle game developed by Compile Hearts and published by Idea Factory has found its way onto Steam. The game was originally released in North America in 2014 as a PlayStation Vita exclusive. Unfortunately, the PC version of Monster Monpiece does not include multiplayer but is otherwise the same as the Vita version.
The story is set in Yafaniel, a magical, female-only land in which monster girls coexist alongside humans. Players assume the role of May Esperio, a shy, up-and-coming student at the academy in Kunaguva. One day, May and her friends Elza and Karen are assigned the duty to travel to Ginuma and participate in a battle at the academy there. May and Elza are each assigned their own monster girl partners for the battle. After reaching Ginuma, May encounters a mysterious person known as the Masked Diva who has the power to turn others into heartless beings known as Lost. The story takes a dark turn as Elza becomes possessed by the Masked Diva. Can May and her companions rescue Elza from the Masked Diva’s clutches?
The card battles in Monster Monpiece takes place on a 7×3 board. Players take turns with the AI to summon monster girls on their side of the field. Each monster girl has a unique combination of statistics, type, aura, species, potential, and skills. Monster girls automatically advance towards the enemy’s HQ on the other side of the board at the beginning of each turn. If a monster girl reaches the opposing side’s HQ, she will attack it and disappear. The match is over once an HQ’s health reaches zero.
The special feature of Monster Monpiece is a mechanic called “First Crush ❤ Rub”. By spending Rub Points, which are earned by playing matches, players can power up their monster girls. For one reason or another, every time a monster girl is powered up, they lose articles of clothing and eventually become practically naked. The mature aspect of the game is tied to this mechanic.
Monster Monpiece is currently discounted by 25% to celebrate its launch. The base game is priced at $14.99, and the deluxe bundle, which includes an original soundtrack, digital card gallery, rough sketches art book, and six PC wallpapers, is priced at $22.48. The promotion lasts until March 21st so be sure to purchase the game beforehand if you’re interested!
