This trailer shows what appears to be a new character. It could potentially be Zelda, but we can’t be too sure. Eiji
Aonuma was very upfront upon announcing the game that it would be a far cry from the typical conventions of Zelda games. This game focuses more on an open world, waiting to be explored at the player’s pace.
The linearity of previous games in the series has been replaced by a world that lines up more with open world
western RPGs.
We can also see what appears to be cataclysmic weather events in this new Hyrule. It’s currently unclear what evil forces will be at work, as well as what traditions will be completely removed in favor of these newer mechanics.
In spite of the change in structure, a lot of key Zelda elements are still in place, such as the focus on sword combat and archery, and the structure of dungeons that give you access to special items in order to solve puzzles. Epona makes a return as well, allowing Link to traverse the land at a higher speed.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is set to launch sometime in 2017 for both the new Nintendo Switch console and the Wii U.
